About Stephen P. Zwolak
Steve Zwolak is the CEO of LUME Institute and the Executive Director of University City Children’s Center. He has over 50 years’ experience as a student of children, tirelessly advancing and advocating for early childhood. Steve’s years as a classroom teacher and leader in the field of early childhood enabled him to build the LUME Approach to education, which focuses on Emotionally Responsive Teaching. The Approach emphasizes that the emotional development of children is critical to a child’s future success. He has been recognized locally, regionally and nationally for his work with children, families and educators.
With children out of school, physical distancing as the new norm, and children’s rights under threat, the new world order has “turned back the clock” on years of progress made on children’s well-being. However, it’s not all bad. As a human race, we’ve been built to adapt: we’ve seen a tipping point in technology-enabled education and the promise of a new education policy in our country.
