![]() | Nicole started school at KLAY Preparatory School, Whitefield, Bangalore on 1st December 2011. What began as a challenging first week, soon metamorphed into an interesting experience of learning, exploring and fun activity. Once back home she loves narrating all the happenings at school. She seems to have absorbed every word uttered by her teachers. Playing SCHOOL with her Thatha (paternal grandfather) is her favourite pastime. Reciting all the rhymes taught to her at school has become her bedtime ritual. In fact her Aba & Nana (maternal grandparents) in Mangalore wait for her call, where she happily chirps all the rhymes. “There are seven days” is Nana’s personal favourite. Mama and Dada are her devoted audience, and thanks to her they too have learnt all the rhymes including the actions. They know the names of most of her classmates and even have information on who was “really” present or who was “very” absent. Going by the smiley on her hand (or rather by their absence) mamma is able to figure out to an extent what Nicole was up to at class. “I got only one star because I pushed Anya” or “I snatched the glue from Sandra” is her innocent explanation, when her naughty hands have been at work. Although her wailing has reached a new –much higher decibel level(probably inspired by one of the younger toddlers), wanting mamma to wash her hands like Kavitha Didi, or wanting to drink from a tumbler like Elina have made washing up time and milk time much easier. If the “Cleanup -cleanup” routine has translated into toys going back in their place after play, then “Hold the railing” has prompted her to use the staircase more carefully and “Fruit Salad, Yummy Yummy” has opened her up to the much detested apples and bananas. Mama and Dada (Appa, Papa, Amma, Mother are the new versions) are proud of their little darling and amazed at how much she has managed to grasp and recollect in a matter of few months. Mamma therefore has decided to compile all the rhymes, poems, action songs as recited by her. (Mamma has just gone by Nicole’s version + mamma’s understanding … so there might be portions which are not really right, but who says this exercise was about being right anyways). When Nicole becomes a B…I…G girl she can look back and read what she learnt when she was a Senior Toddler. “THINKING, SPEAKING, LISTENING, CONCENTRATING” (the action words at Circle Time) seem to be an apt title for this collection. ![]() Date of Posting: 03 April 2012 Posted By: Seema Monteiro-Agnelo |
